For many Portuguese the word savings seems to be a mirage. This week it was reported that Portuguese savings levels are at the lowest levels of the last two decades. For every € 100.00, the Portuguese put on average € 4.20 in savings. How to explain this? How to explain that people can not save money?
We have too many benefits?
It is clearly low in value and is a consequence of imbalances in personal finances. However, it is also true that consumers have assumed a given series of benefits that are more valued in the face of savings.
Without making moral judgments about the purchasing decisions of each one, I can not fail to notice that the consumer society in which we move seems to compel us to have goods and services that are not so essential. For example, clients who subscribe to a telecommunications package with more than 100 channels and landline, when in reality they do not see more than 4 and never use the fixed network. Or people for whom buying a smart phone in the form of interest-free credit is a great deal, when days before the purchase said it was impossible to save € 10.00 / month.
What I want to warn here is that in some cases it is easier to say that it is not possible to save, than to make choices that lead to a more restrained lifestyle. Being simple in life choices is not social shame to anyone.
Establishing savings as something more important than the provision of telecommunications or consumer credit (even if without interest!) Is elementary to safeguard financial and emotional stability. Being picky about our money spending decisions is imperative in order to survive the consumer society.
Where to Start Saving?
In Henry Higgins we have written several articles dedicated to this topic. And we are inspired by the life story of the thousands of people who meet us in our formations and in our diagnostic consultations. In this context, why not start saving money by looking at financial diagnosis and for optimizing your insurance portfolio? No cost and start saving quickly.
